Daraqutni in Ilal al-Warida (V.6, page 272) narrates from Abu Zar that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) said: “Ali is the divider of the fire of hell. He will set his friends to heaven and his enemies to hell.”

In Tabaqat al-Hanabilah (Abu Ya’la, V.1, p.320), Muhammad ibn Manzur Tusi says: “We were with Ahmad ibn Hanbal when a man said to him ‘O Aba-Abdullah! What is your view about this hadith which Ali says, “I am the divider of the fire of hell?”

Ahmad said, “What refutation you have for this hadith? Isn’t it narrated to us from the Prophet that he said to Ali, “No one but a believer would love you and no one but a hypocrite would bear enmity against you.” I said [Why]. He said, ‘Where is the [place] of a believer? We replied “Heaven”. He said ‘Where is the [place] of a hypocrite? We replied, “In hell”. He said, ‘Therefore, Ali is the distributor of the fire of hell.’
