HADITHS 46

If the love of Ali (ع) was in everyone’s heart

Ibn Abbas narrates that the Messenger of Allah (ص) said:

﴿ لَوِ اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ عَلَی حُبِّ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ لَـمَا خَلَقَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ النَّارَ ﴾

"If the people were unanimous in the love of Ali bin Abi Talib, the Almighty Allah would not have created the fire" [1]

Explanation

Ali ibn Isa Irbili writes in the commentary of this narration: "The secret of the matter is that the love for Ali (ع) is the outcome of the love of the Prophet (ص), and the love for the Prophet (ص) is the outcome of the love for God and His monotheism, fulfillment of duties, obedience to the divine commands and prohibitions, and adherence to the Prophet’s Book and traditions. Obviously, if all the people collectively acted in accordance with this blessed nature, God would not have created hell.]" [2]

About the above-mentioned hadith, another scholar says: "From this noble hadith, it is understood that the Fire and torment have been created only for the opponents" (i.e., the enemies of Ali and his children)."
